Day 1

Hello there!

So far, the past few weeks that we've spent in Europe have been jam-packed and full of walking. Our itinerary seemed to always have an activity for us, whether we were pretending to be part of British royalty at Windsor Castle or gazing in awe at the panoramic view of Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower. I must say that I'm thrilled to finally be in Copenhagen, my residence for the next 4 months. It will be a nice change of pace from the previous metropolitan cities that were constantly busy and oftentimes overwhelming.

Here's how our first few hours in the city began:
My parents and I arrived at the Copenhagen airport around 3pm. After picking up our heavy baggage, we proceeded to the metro station where we were completely stumped by the process of purchasing our tickets (the metro steward even admitted that the ticketing system is complicated). Nearly 20 minutes and several questions about how to properly use our punch cards later, we boarded the train that would take us to our hotel. We got off at Frederiksberg station and after more confusion about what street we were standing on, we eventually figured out our location and made it to our hotel...around 5 or so.

We dropped the luggage off in our small hotel room (three people in a European-size room is like a can of sardines, way too crowded with little to no personal space...love you Papa and Mom!) and then headed out to dinner. We explored the streets around the Frederiksberg neighborhood before deciding on a modern Asian bistro called Wokshop. The food was pretty tasty and having a completely different cuisine was a change we all needed. Sometimes, a bowl of rice with yellow curry hits the spot after eating salads and bread for over a week.

After dinner, we continued our walk and then came back to the hotel...where I now sit at a somewhat poorly-lit table to write my first blog entry. Over these next few months, I will share many of my adventures with you, through written word and pictures, as I immerse myself in Copenhagen society. Thank you for taking this journey with me, even if it is via cyberspace...I'm glad to have you along on this adventure of a lifetime!
